GEAR INFORMATION WET TOOLS The photos in these galleries are my visual memories of the sea from some of the happiest hours of my life. What an endless variety of surprises the water world shares with us. All the images are 35 mm format recorded on 100 speed print film. (Kodak or Fuji - I can not see any variation in color tones, although some say that Fuji has more magenta) The photos from Miline Bay, Fiji, and Solomon Islands were recorded with a Nikonos V body and a single Nikon SB-103 strobe, using TTL mode. 20 mm lens for wide angle, a close up kit w/extension tubes for the smaller subjects. At Eastern Fields I used a Nikon N-70 body with 60 & 105 mm auto focus lenses for macro/close up, housed in an Ikelite housing, with twin Ikelite #50 strobes. The wider shots were taken with Nikonos V and twin SB-105 strobes. The housed camera affords many more macro opportunities than the NV, and the Ikelite system is close to neutral buoyancy. The Fla. Keys shots (close to home) are taken with both cameras. I alternate them every week and take "pot luck" with the possible opportunities. For enhancing macro shots taken with SLR cameras in housings, I now carry Woody Mayhews' "push on diopter" designed to fit on the exterior face of macro lens ports manufactured by Nexus and Ikelite. Slipping the diopter on under water allows a significant increase in magnification; and also allows closer focusing, thus reducing the water column between lens and subject. Examples of the benefits of use can be seen here. DRY TOOLS I use a Microtek SlimScan C6 unit to scan print film images to Photosmart software to record and store image data files.
